Civil Designer

Asa Engineering and Consulting, Inc., a multidiscipline professional services provider that delivers land planning, land surveying, civil engineering, transportation design, landscape architecture, environmental consulting, and construction services to both public and private sector Clients throughout the southeastern United States.  We are actively looking to hire an entry level Civil Designer to be part of our team in Chattanooga, Tennessee.

In this position you will assist our team with the preparation of design documents for local, state, and federal government agencies and private sector Clients in the commercial, mixed-use, institutional, industrial, multi-family residential, large-scale single family residential and hospitality market segments. The candidate will work in a fast-paced engineering environment where projects may range from large scale, multi-year, governmental projects to short duration residential and commercial projects. Specific duties include:

  • Associates Degree in related field

  • Develop plans that may include cover sheets; general notes; typical sections; cross-sections; plan and profile sheets; grading and drainage sheets; erosion control and traffic control sheets; utility and ROW sheets, landscape sheets, and relevant detail sheets

  • Generate construction take-offs, construction cost estimates, technical specifications and bid books

  • Work with multi-disciplined land development team, including land planners, project managers, engineers, landscape architects, surveyors, and designers to coordinate design development effort

  • Strong Proficiency in AutoCAD

  • Land Development experience and understanding of local land development codes, regulations, and design standards (preferred)

  • Experience with basic production software tools (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)

  • Strong work ethic

  • Ability to work independently and as an integral part of a project team

  • Good oral and written communication skills and technical writing skills

Landscape Architect | Land Planner

Asa Engineering and Consulting, Inc. is seeking a creative and established Landscape Architect/Land Planner/Project Manager to join our Chattanooga office. This position will have responsibilities which include supervision and management of exciting projects including master planned developments, residential and commercial sites, and various mixed-use projects along with various amenities and other recreational project components.

While contributing to both employee development and management of departmental activity, the experienced professional will be responsible for managing clients and undertaking business development activities related to the preparation of proposals/ contracts, production of high quality site plans, rezoning plans and related public meeting processes along with the preparation of illustrative materials, rendered graphics, landscape planting plans and other related technical construction documents within a multi-disciplinary team setting. Specific responsibilities and qualifications include:

Responsibilities:

  • Management of design development, preparation and/or administration of the contract documents, cost estimates, agency correspondence, client relations, staff supervision and mentoring.

  • Production of high-quality design in AutoCAD/Civil 3D, Adobe Creative Suites (PhotoShop, InDesign, Illustrator, Sketchup), Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Power Point) and other design platforms.

  • Work directly with clients to advance master plans/ small area/corridor plans, develop site plans, manage the entitlement processes, and implement improvements.

  • Provide design, project, and task management leadership and mentoring to various production team members.

  • Business development and marketing of clients including networking, active participation in professional development forums, presenting work to professional organizations, writing proposals, and maintaining budgets and backlog reporting for projected work.

Qualifications:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Landscape Architecture. Planning from an accredited program is a plus

  • Professional registration in Tennessee as a Landscape Architect. Certified Planner is a plus.

  • A minimum of 5 or more years of professional land planning / Landscape Architecture experience with a diverse and dynamic portfolio.

  • Ability to effectively communicate with strong freehand illustrations and rendering skills.

  • Knowledge of AutoCAD/FX Works, Photoshop and Sketch Up.

  • Good financial management skills.

  • Demonstrated experience working in a fast-paced, multidisciplinary environment with tight deadlines and ability to adjust to project priorities and demands of multiple clients.

  • Experience working with local codes, ordinances and public agency standards related to land development design and related entitlement processes.

  • Demonstrated graphics skills that are expressive in both sketch and finished formats.

  • Strong business development skills along with knowledge of the local land development market.

  • Strong collaborator and presenter in front of boards and councils for multiple project types.

  • Ability to liaise with public and private sector clients, maintain client relationships, manage projects, and mentor staff.

  • Excellent interpersonal, leadership and communication skills that will allow you to effectively and professionally interact with clients, approval authorities, governmental officials, and the public.

Construction Inspectors in Nashville, Chattanooga and Knoxville Areas

Asa has an immediate opening for two (2) to three (3) full-time Construction Services Field Inspectors in the Nashville, Chattanooga, and Knoxville areas.  The team members in this role will provide field observations and inspections in support of our clients and projects.  This includes safely and successfully completing observation, inspection, testing, and applicable documentation of various construction activities for compliance with project documents and local requirements. Ideal candidates should possess the following qualifications:

  • 5+ years of progressive experience on heavy civil and transportation projects

  • Ability to read and interpret plans, technical specifications and construction contract documents

  • Excellent math skills

  • Organize and maintain daily records of work activities

  • Current driver’s license in the state of TN

  • Current ACI Level I, Nuclear Gauge Safety Certificates, and roadway paving certifications

  • Any TDOT, ICC, EPSC, CEI, NICET, etc. certifications is a plus

  • Ability to effectively communicate with team members, clients and contractors

  • Basic computer skills with Microsoft Office products

  • Photo-document  sites and work activities

  • Effectively prioritize and track issues throughout project life cycle
